Late Summer depicts a field with trees and a lone house around it, all
underneath a sky, which takes up the majority of the composition. The
piece is made with oil paint on canvas. Being one of the artist's
earlier pieces, the sky's almost turbulent colors partially hint at an
oncoming storm and partially reflect the artist's own experimentation
with colors. The stillness of the buildings contrast the implication
of wind given by the sweeping strokes seen in the yellow field and
trees.
